I’ve been experimenting with adding black to blend darker shades of color this year. As I was coloring a drawing about Cryptozoological monsters — which isn’t finished yet — I realized I was getting kind of bored of that style. It got me thinking that it would be interesting to do the exact opposite approach and go for a softer and lighter look. There were these two drawings, one of me in my bed, and one of me looking out a window that I figured would be the perfect test drawings for this coloring experiment. I don’t feel as though I’ve achieved the ‘look’ of lightness that I’ve wanted but I’m pretty happy with the results, anyway.

In this drawing I’m looking out the window and thinking about the future; the future is brighter than the room I’m standing in but almost overwhelmingly so. Funny how that works.
